How does it work?

NJ Headshot Photographer

Does any of this sound familiar? Trust me, you aren't alone.

You are updating your “About Us” page on your website and have no idea what images to use.

You know photos of yourself and behind the scenes get higher engagement on social media but you have no images, or only low quality phone images, to do that.

You hate yourself in photos and prefer never to be in front of the camera.

You are talented, started a business, or are a professional, and have happy customers but now need to attract more clients in order to grow and make more $$$.

You have a blank LinkedIn profile photo or headshot on your company’s website.

Headshots: A What to Wear Guide

In the corporate world, your headshot is often the first impression you make on colleagues, clients, and potential employers. A polished and professional appearance not only conveys competence but also sets the tone for your personal brand. To ensure your corporate headshots exude confidence and credibility, let’s delve into the nuances of choosing the perfect wardrobe.

Understanding Corporate Culture:
The first step in selecting your outfit for corporate headshots is understanding the dress code prevalent in your industry and company. While some sectors lean towards a traditional and formal look, others may embrace a more casual or creative vibe. Aligning your wardrobe choices with your industry norms is key to making a positive impact.

Classic Business Attire:
For traditional corporate settings, stick to classic business attire. Men can opt for a well-fitted suit or dress shirt and tie, while women may choose a tailored blazer or a professional blouse. Neutral colors like navy, charcoal, and black exude a timeless elegance. Layers are acceptable as long as the top layer is darker in color than the bottom layer.

Blouses and Professional Tops:
Women have a variety of options, including blouses, professional tops, or a combination of a blazer and a simple blouse. Opt for solid colors or subtle patterns to avoid distractions.  Choose long sleeves or three-quarter sleeves as it looks more professional and your arms will sometimes be closest to the camera.

Solids or Patterns?
Solid colors are always recommended but subtle patterns are OK. Avoid any tight patterns like tweed, small polka dots, pinstripes, etc.

Accessorize with Care:
Accessories can enhance your outfit, but it’s crucial to keep them subtle in a corporate setting. A simple watch, professional earrings, or a tie pin can add a touch of personality without overshadowing your professional demeanor. Minimalist accessories are usually best for professional headshots. Avoid anything too flashy or distracting.

Grooming Matters:
Pay attention to grooming details such as well-kempt hair, clean-shaven or neatly groomed facial hair, and makeup. A well-groomed appearance complements your chosen corporate attire, creating a cohesive and polished look.

Make Sure Everything Fits and Looks Tidy:
Clothing should be fitted, nothing loose or baggy. Well-fitted attire looks more polished in photographs. Arrive with clothing ironed and lint-free as I do not edit out clothing wrinkles. Wear the right bra for your shirt and make sure it does not show through. Avoid logos of any kind.

And finally, glasses.

Only wear glasses that have minimal to no reflective coating and make sure the lenses are clean.

"I was so nervous going into the shoot, but Megan was so laid back and easy to work with, it made everything so easy. She made me feel so comfortable and pretty."
